Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, calling on world leaders to continue cutting off Russia's revenue streams and hindering its ability to sustain the war against Ukraine.
While calling for de-escalation of the conflict, Zelenskyy also warned that Ukraine is bracing for a difficult winter. He said Ukrainians are prepared for what he called a "very harsh winter," but stressed they are equally ready to respond to any continued Russian attacks, warning the colder months could prove "painful" for Moscow as well.

The address comes amid ongoing strikes on energy infrastructure and broader discussion of a possible pause in attacks on power systems. At the UN, Zelenskyy signalled Ukraine's readiness for what has been described as an "energy ceasefire."
Russia's foreign minister is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Saturday, giving Moscow a chance to respond to Zelenskyy's remarks. Separately, Nato officials have warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin is becoming increasingly cavalier, pointing to rising tensions between Russia and the Western alliance.
