Russia strikes Kyiv with ballistic missiles overnight, multiple explosions heard
Air raid alerts sounded across Kyiv and most Ukrainian regions overnight on Thursday due to a ballistic missile threat, with a series of explosions reported in the capital. Medical teams were dispatched to several districts, though casualty information has not yet been released.
Overnight into Thursday, September 24, air raid alerts were declared in Kyiv and most regions of Ukraine over the threat of Russian ballistic weapons, according to Ukraine's Air Force, the Kyiv City Military Administration, regional administrations, and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Around 1 a.m., the Air Force reported a threat of Russian ballistic weapons. A red danger level was declared in the capital and most regions due to the missile threat. The Air Force later reported that missiles were moving toward Kyiv and Kyiv region.
Shortly after 1 a.m., a series of explosions rang out in Kyiv. At 1:22 a.m., Klitschko reported that medics had been called to the Solomianskyi district. At the same time, the Air Force again warned of a ballistic missile threat originating from Russia's Bryansk region.
At 1:30 a.m., Klitschko announced that the capital was under ballistic attack and urged residents to remain in shelters. The mayor later reported that medical teams were also called to the Sviatoshynskyi and Podilskyi districts of the capital.
