Overnight into Thursday, Kyiv and most Ukrainian regions declared an air raid alert due to the threat of Russian ballistic weapons. The news was reported by Ukraine's Air Force, the Kyiv City Military Administration, regional administrations and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Explosions in the capital
Around 1 a.m., the Air Force warned of a Russian ballistic weapons threat, and a red danger level over missile threats was declared in the capital and most regions. The Air Force later reported missiles moving toward Kyiv and Kyiv region.
Shortly after 1 a.m., a series of explosions rang out in Kyiv. At 1:22 a.m., Klitschko announced that medics had been called to the Solomianskyi district. At the same time, the Air Force again warned of a ballistic threat from Russia's Bryansk region.
Mayor's warning to residents
At 1:30 a.m., Klitschko stated: "Explosions in Kyiv. The capital is under ballistic attack. Stay in shelters!" He later reported that medics had also been dispatched to the Sviatoshynskyi and Podilskyi districts.
