Ukraine's armed forces name "Delta" system architect as new digitalization deputy

Artem Martynenko, the chief architect behind the Ukrainian military's "Delta" software system, will become the new deputy to Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi responsible for digitalization. The appointment was confirmed to Ukrainska Pravda by a source within Ukraine's Defense Forces, and separately reported by the outlet hromadske, citing three sources in the Defense Forces.

According to hromadske, Drapatyi dismissed his previous deputy, Brigadier General Andriy Lebedenko, following an internal audit. The outlet noted that some people close to Drapatyi had expressed dissatisfaction with Lebedenko's performance.

Martynenko's background with Delta

According to the programmers' community DOU, Martynenko has worked on the development of Delta since 2015, when he was still a student at the Military Institute of Telecommunications and Informatization. The system originally functioned mainly as a digital map allowing troops to see their own forces, enemy positions, and other objects on the battlefield.

In 2017, volunteers transferred the rights to develop the system to Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, and Martynenko moved to work there as well. Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, he has served as the system's chief architect, overseeing its ongoing development. In 2024, Delta was officially put into operational use across all of Ukraine's defense units.
