Thousands of homes in Crawley, England were left without running water or experiencing low pressure on Sunday morning after a major water pipe burst, triggering flooding on several roads.
Sussex Police described the incident as a "significant" leak and closed roads around the Southgate Roundabout. Southgate Avenue, Crawley Avenue and part of the A23 were also shut. Police asked the public to avoid the area so emergency services could manage the situation safely.
Southern Water said around 9,000 customers were affected by the burst and that it was setting up bottled water stations for residents. Areas experiencing loss of supply or low pressure include Woolborough Road, Holmcroft, Southgate, Tilgate and Furnace Green.
A company spokesperson said crews were on site working as quickly and safely as possible to repair the burst and restore supplies, adding that restoring water to customers remained the company's highest priority.
Martin Lawrence, who was making deliveries in the area at 05:00 BST, told BBC Radio Sussex he encountered a massive flood spreading across the road, with a large volume of water flowing from one side of the roundabout to the other and into an underpass. He said he had never seen so much water in his life.
Repair work and road closures remained in place as teams continued efforts to fix the leak and restore normal water supply to residents.
