Burst water pipe leaves thousands without supply in Crawley, roads shut
A significant water pipe burst in Crawley, England, has cut off supply to thousands of homes and forced the closure of several roads. Southern Water says crews are working to fix the leak and has set up bottled water stations.
Thousands of homes in the English town of Crawley are facing water supply problems on Sunday morning after what police describe as a "significant" pipe burst. Sussex Police confirmed that several roads around the Southgate Roundabout have been closed as a result.
Water supplier Southern Water said around 9,000 customers have been affected by the incident. The company is setting up stations where residents can collect bottled water while the issue is resolved.
A Southern Water spokesperson said crews are already on site, working as quickly and safely as possible to repair the burst pipe and restore supply. Residents in Woolborough Road, Holmcroft, Southgate, Tilgate and Furnace Green are experiencing either low water pressure or a complete loss of supply.
The company stressed that restoring water to affected customers as fast as possible remains its top priority.
Southgate Avenue, Crawley Avenue and part of the A23 are currently closed to traffic. Sussex Police has urged people to avoid the area so emergency services can manage the situation safely.
