Buildings evacuated in Britain near air base used by the US, several people detained
Police in western England evacuated several buildings near RAF Fairford, a base also used by the US Air Force, and detained multiple people suspected of explosives-related offences.
Police in western England evacuated several buildings on Saturday, 27 September, in the village of Welford, located next to the Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford base. In addition to the British military, the base is also used by the United States Air Force.
Gloucestershire Police said the incident is being treated as serious. Several people have been detained on suspicion of offences connected to explosives.
Vehicles being checked
Army explosive ordnance disposal experts are currently at the scene, checking several vehicles. Further details about the circumstances that led to the evacuation and the detentions have not yet been made public.
