Support for Latvia's United List triples in Smiltene municipality
In Smiltene municipality, the United List (AS) secured nearly 49% of votes in the 15th Saeima election, up from under 14% four years ago, making it the leading party locally. New Unity, which led in 2022, won only around 6% this time.

Preliminary data published by the Central Election Commission for the 15th Saeima election shows a dramatic shift in political support in Smiltene municipality compared to the previous parliamentary vote. The biggest change came for the United List (AS), whose support jumped from 13.76% four years ago to 48.54% this time — more than a threefold increase. This propelled the party from third place to a clear lead in the municipality.
Reversal of fortunes
The opposite happened to New Unity (JV), which topped the vote in Smiltene municipality four years ago with 26.16% support. This time the party received just 6.01% of votes, losing its leading position entirely.
The National Alliance placed second locally with 12.40% of votes. Latvia First received 6.97% support, while the Progressives got 5.16%. Meanwhile, support for the Union of Greens and Farmers fell sharply, from 15.54% four years ago to just 4.98% this time.
Voter turnout
Of the 14,163 residents eligible to vote in Smiltene municipality, 8,428 took part in the election, giving a turnout rate of 59.51%.
