On Tuesday, October 6, at 15:00, the Latgale Culture History Museum in Rēzekne will open the solo memorial exhibition "The Relationship Between Lightness and Heaviness," marking what would have been the 50th birthday of graphic artist, sculptor, photographer and teacher Vjačeslavs Fomins. The artist, known by the nickname Bitty, passed away earlier this year.

Fomins was a master of classical graphic printing techniques and an associate professor at the Art Academy of Latvia. His life and artistic path were closely tied to the Latgale region, particularly the towns of Ludza and Rēzekne. As a teacher, he spent years working with young artists at the J. Soikāns Art School in Ludza and at the Latgale Music and Art Secondary School, and he also headed the graphics department at the Latgale branch of the Art Academy.

The exhibition has been organized by the Latgale branch of the Art Academy together with the Ludza Art School. Its curator is Katrīna Kūkoja, with accompanying texts written by author Laura Vinogradova. Running until November 7, the show explores themes of lightness and heaviness, life and death, fullness and emptiness, and humor and seriousness, offering visitors a chance to get to know Fomins not only as an artist but also as a thinker.

Also at the museum

Until October 10, the same museum is still showing painter and teacher Inga Onževa's solo exhibition "Color. Space. Breath." — a body of paintings created after a ten-year break, done in an abstract expressionist style with bold colors and spontaneous brushwork. The exhibition's second part features lithographs Onževa made during her student years, roughly 25 to 30 years ago, inspired by the islands of Burano and Murano and the city of Venice.

Onževa has taught at the Latgale Music and Art Secondary School for 20 years, instructing students in composition and painting. At the school, located at Bazniecas Street 34A in Rēzekne, visitors who register with the duty attendant can view student and graduate works, including clothing design sketches by second-year students currently displayed on the third floor.
