Psychotherapist Explains: Fear, Anxiety, and Panic Are Different States
Fear is a natural emotion, but anxiety and panic are states triggered by fear that affect people differently, says psychotherapist Inese Putniece.

Fear is one of the basic human emotions and is normal, even healthy. However, anxiety and panic are different states induced by fear, and they can affect a person in completely different ways, explained psychodynamic psychotherapist Inese Putniece on Latvian Radio's program “Is That Normal?”
This distinction is crucial for understanding why different people react to dangerous situations in various ways – one freezes, another fights or flees. Putniece emphasizes that fear is a signal that mobilizes the body, while anxiety and panic can paralyze or lead to uncontrolled actions.
The expert encourages recognizing these states and seeking help if anxiety or panic interferes with daily life.
