Pakistan claim first away Test win in three years to level Windies series
Pakistan secured an eight-wicket victory over West Indies in the second Test in Trinidad, drawing the series 1-1 and ending a run of eight consecutive away defeats.
Pakistan completed their first overseas Test victory in three years with an eight-wicket win over West Indies in the second Test at Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain, levelling the two-match series at 1-1.
Set a modest target of 75 runs, Pakistan reached 77-2 in 24 overs on the fourth afternoon. Opening batsman Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam both remained unbeaten on 24, guiding the tourists across the finish line in the sixth over after lunch.
West Indies, who had won the opening Test in Tarouba, resumed their second innings on 103-6 after losing three late wickets on day three. Their lead stood at just 60 runs, with Pakistan having posted 387 in reply to the hosts' first-innings total of 344.
The home side were dismissed for 117 within half an hour on Wednesday, losing their three remaining wickets with batter Brandon King absent hurt. Off-spinner Ali Usman, playing in his second Test, claimed 4-39, while Sajid Khan added 4-32, with Usman taking two of his wickets on the final morning.
In their brief chase, Pakistan lost openers Imam-ul-Haq and Azan Awais early, reaching 57-2 at lunch. Imam was caught by Jason Greaves off Jayden Seales for nine, and Azan was bowled by Shamar Joseph for 18. But Shafique and Babar, who had scored 160 not out and 88 respectively in the first innings, completed the job in the sixth over after the break.
The victory ended a run of eight consecutive away defeats for Pakistan dating back to a win over Sri Lanka in Colombo in July 2023. The team now travels to England for a three-match Test series, beginning at Headingley on Wednesday, 19 August.
