World No. 1 Jannik Sinner ends season early due to knee injury
Italian tennis world No. 1 Jannik Sinner is ending his 2026 season early because of a knee injury and will undergo treatment. Germany's Alexander Zverev is now likely to finish the year as world No. 1.

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, currently ranked world No. 1 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), is ending his 2026 season early due to a knee injury. He now needs to undergo a course of treatment.
Sinner has not competed in any ATP tournaments since July, when he won the Wimbledon title. He had been recovering from the knee injury, which forced him to skip the entire US hard-court tournament swing as well as the 2026 US Open.
A strong run before the injury
Earlier this season, before the injury, Sinner won five consecutive Masters titles — in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome.
The 25-year-old has five Grand Slam titles to his name: the Australian Open (2024, 2025), the US Open (2024) and Wimbledon (2025, 2026).
With Sinner sidelined, Germany's Alexander Zverev is now the likely candidate to finish the season ranked world No. 1.
