"Colossal losses": Russian strike destroys $70 million Rozetka warehouse in Ukraine
A Russian missile strike destroyed a distribution centre belonging to Ukrainian online marketplace Rozetka near Kyiv, valued at $70 million. The company is calling for state support, including deferred tax payments, as insurers refuse to cover such risks.
Ukraine's major online marketplace Rozetka has reported massive losses after a Russian strike destroyed its distribution centre in the town of Brovary, near Kyiv. Co-founder Iryna Chechotkina shared the details with Ukrainian news agency Interfax-Ukraine.
According to Chechotkina, the destroyed facility was worth approximately $70 million. The company also lost goods worth billions of hryvnias. She noted that insurance companies are unwilling to underwrite risks of this scale, and called on the government to allow affected businesses to defer their tax payments.
Unprecedented damage
Chechotkina said the losses are so colossal that recovery will not be possible without outside assistance. The distribution centre, which opened in 2017, had processed more than 100,000 orders per day before the strike rendered it unrestorable.
Circumstances of the attack
The Rozetka warehouse in Brovary was hit by three ballistic missiles during the night of 4-5 August. The following day, the company confirmed that direct losses from the latest wave of Russian attacks had reached billions of hryvnias — the largest in the company's history.
