In the Russian city of Izhevsk, School No. 62 put girls from grades five and six to work sewing underwear for Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine. The school posted about the sewing drive on June 11, but the post went largely unnoticed until recently. The Telegram channel “Udmurtia Without Corruption” was among the first to flag it.

The school’s sewing brigade, “Igolochka” (Little Needle), reportedly produced a batch of clothing for troops in a regiment from Udmurtia. However, photos in the post reveal that what they sewed was actually underwear. “Girls in fifth and sixth grade worked without rest for two weeks. […] The girls made their own contribution to helping people in need! These items will be sent to the front, where they’ll come in handy for the troops,” the school stated.

In return for the underwear, Igolochka received two thank-you letters: one from the medical service of the Udmurt regiment and another from the “Pomoshch Frontu Izhevsk” (Help for the Front Izhevsk) movement. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian authorities have involved children in various campaigns supporting the war in Ukraine. Russian schools and kindergartens have also held special classes defending the invasion.
