Court to decide on detention of man accused of assaulting wife in Jēkabpils

Latvia's State Police has reported that a court will today consider a request to place a man under arrest following his detention in Jēkabpils earlier this week.

According to police, the man is accused of attacking his wife as well as committing violence against the couple's shared children. He was taken into custody in the first days of this week.

Under Latvian procedure, a court ruling is required to formally place a suspect under arrest as a security measure, which is why police have submitted the request to court. The hearing will determine whether sufficient grounds exist to keep the man in custody pending further investigation or trial.

The State Police has not released additional details about the case, including information on the victims' condition or how the proceedings will unfold.
