Meloni congratulates Kulbergs on Saeima election win, citing Latvia's choice for security

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has congratulated Andris Kulbergs on the United List's decisive win in the 15th Saeima elections, while Kulbergs revealed the two leaders spoke by phone after the vote.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni publicly congratulated Andris Kulbergs, leader of the party alliance "Apvienotais saraksts" (United List), on the group's decisive result in Latvia's 15th Saeima elections. Writing on social media, Meloni said the outcome shows that Latvians are determined to defend their freedom, security, and their place within Europe and the West.

In her message, Meloni also stressed that Italy and Latvia would continue cooperating on European security, working together to build a stronger and safer Europe capable of defending its own interests and values. She closed by wishing Kulbergs success in his upcoming work.

Kulbergs: the two spoke by phone

Kulbergs responded by thanking Meloni for her kind words and revealing that the two leaders had already spoken by phone following the election results. He said Latvia and Italy must keep deepening their friendship while jointly working to strengthen European security, investing in both defense and the economy. According to Kulbergs, shared values form the foundation of Europe's identity, strength, and unity.

Election results

In the 15th Saeima elections, the United List won 35.3% of the vote, securing 41 seats. To form a government, the alliance will need at least one coalition partner.
