Essex Cricketer Robin Das Charged With Two Counts of Rape
Essex batter Robin Das, 24, has been charged with two counts of rape linked to an incident in Brixton in March 2024, and the club has suspended him since his arrest last August.
Essex County Cricket Club batter Robin Das, 24, has been charged with two counts of rape. He was formally charged on 23 July and is due to appear at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 9 October.
The Metropolitan Police said Das, of Queens Road, Waltham Forest, was arrested on 27 August last year following reports that a woman had been raped in Brixton on 30 March 2024. Police said the woman continues to receive support from specialist officers.
Das last played for Essex on 21 July in a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex, his only senior appearance of the 2026 season. He was arrested two days later, and the club has kept him suspended ever since.
In a statement, Essex confirmed that a contracted member of its playing staff had recently appeared in court over an incident that occurred outside club activities. The club said it has stayed in contact throughout with the England and Wales Cricket Board, the Professional Cricketers' Association, the Cricket Regulator and the player himself regarding his immediate and ongoing suspension. Essex said it maintains strict safeguarding and HR procedures and expects all staff to meet the highest standards of conduct, adding that it cannot comment further while legal proceedings continue.
Das made his Essex debut in 2020 and has gone on to make 60 appearances for the county, including nine first-class matches, 29 in 50-over cricket and 24 in T20 cricket. Two of his T20 appearances came while playing for the Dhaka Dominators in the Bangladesh Premier League.
