Person killed in crash on Jelgava–Dalbe road
A minibus and a car collided on the Jelgava–Dalbe road on Wednesday morning, killing one person and sending two others to hospital. Traffic has since been restored.
A serious traffic accident occurred on the Jelgava–Dalbe road on Wednesday morning, resulting in one death, state road operator VSIA "Latvijas valsts ceļi" told the LETA news agency.
The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. According to available information, a minibus travelling from the direction of Jelgava swerved into the opposite lane while trying to avoid colliding with a vehicle ahead that had braked sharply. In the opposite lane, the minibus collided head-on with a Škoda car heading toward Jelgava.
The person inside the car died in the collision. Another passenger from the Škoda, along with the minibus driver, were injured and taken to hospital.
Traffic restored
The accident had blocked traffic on the road, but it was reopened before midday on Wednesday. Firefighters and rescuers from the State Fire and Rescue Service disconnected the damaged vehicle's battery terminals at the scene and cleared the roadway to allow traffic to resume.
