Sweden Allocates Nearly €45 Million to Ukraine for Energy Support Ahead of Winter
Sweden has announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth SEK 500 million (almost €45 million). The funds are intended for energy infrastructure ahead of winter, reconstruction and healthcare.

Sweden announced on 16 October a new aid package for Ukraine worth SEK 500 million, or almost €45 million. The money is to be directed at Ukraine's energy infrastructure ahead of winter, as well as reconstruction and healthcare. The Ukrainian outlet European Pravda reported the news, citing Jessica Rosencrantz, Sweden's Minister for European Union Affairs.
The main aim of the package is to help Ukraine prepare its energy system for the cold season. Russia continues to strike civilian energy infrastructure, and Ukraine is heading into yet another winter of war.
The minister's comments
Rosencrantz stressed that Ukraine is fighting not only for its own freedom but also for the security of all of Europe. According to her, in response to Russia's brutal attacks on civilian energy facilities, Sweden is providing help for rebuilding and healthcare.
Earlier discussions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson have previously discussed Ukraine's needs for protection against Russia's constant attacks, above all stronger air defence. Sweden has promised to supply Ukraine with Gripen fighter jets.
On the same day, 16 October, Zelenskyy called on European Union leaders to provide Ukraine with at least €70 billion in additional aid next year for defence, weapons and strengthening resilience.
