Cat dumped outside in winter frost finds a new home in Latvia

During the recent winter solstice period, when severe frost gripped Latvia, a weakened and disoriented tomcat was spotted on the street. He was noticed by a woman who regularly cares for a colony of cats living near her home. The animal was so exhausted and hungry that he could barely stand on his own legs.

Urgent rescue

To save the cat's life, immediate action was needed. He was brought to the family of a woman named Santa. Initially, the family had reservations about taking in a new pet, since their household already included a dog named Čabulis, who might not react well to a newcomer. However, given the seriousness of the situation — the cat likely would not have survived the frost without help — the decision to take him in was made quickly.

A new home and a new name

The tomcat, given the name Tomiņš, has since settled into his new household. His journey from the street to a warm home was featured on the Latvian Television programme "Ķepa uz sirds" ("A Paw on the Heart"), which regularly follows animal rescue stories in Latvia. Tomiņš now lives with Santa's family and, according to the programme, appears content in his new surroundings.
