Zelensky: 14 injured, two killed in Zaporizhzhia in overnight Russian strikes
Overnight Russian attacks across several Ukrainian regions injured 14 people, while two were killed in Zaporizhzhia. Zelensky urged Western allies to impose tougher sanctions on Russia.
Russian forces injured 14 people and killed two in Zaporizhzhia in overnight strikes across Ukraine on September 26, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported.
According to the president, the strikes hit residential buildings in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and the Odesa, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
Schools and energy facilities damaged
A kindergarten in Kyiv, a lyceum in Kyiv region, and a university in Kharkiv also sustained damage. Energy infrastructure facilities in the Poltava, Mykolaiv and Vinnytsia regions were hit as well.
Call for tougher sanctions
Following the latest attacks, Zelensky appealed to US President Donald Trump to advance the legislative initiative proposed by Senator Lindsey Graham on sanctions against Russia and those financially supporting its war.
The Ukrainian president also addressed European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, calling for additional EU sanctions.
Zelensky said that if Russia chooses to make its strikes even more brutal, the world must choose stronger responses to prevent the war from spreading further. He also called for keeping Russian oligarchs on existing sanctions lists and further restricting trade with Russia.
Earlier, Russian occupying forces attacked Kyiv with drones overnight on September 26, injuring four people.
