Volkswagen Unveils Electric ID. Tiguan SUV, Sales Due in Early 2027

German carmaker Volkswagen has presented its new electric SUV, the ID. Tiguan, which will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5 models. The company plans to start sales in early 2027. The conventional Tiguan with petrol, diesel and hybrid engines will remain on offer as a separate model. Electric cars for the European market will be built in Emden, Germany.

Dimensions and interior

The ID. Tiguan is 4.62 m long, 1.86 m wide and 1.62 m tall, with a 2.77 m wheelbase. The boot holds 534 litres, rising to 1,577 litres with the seats folded. A front compartment can store the charging cable.

In the cabin, Volkswagen has returned to physical buttons and rotary controls, including for climate, volume and steering wheel functions. Standard equipment includes a 10-inch instrument display and a 15-inch central touchscreen; a 12-inch front passenger screen is available at extra cost.

Powertrain and charging

The car uses the MEB+ platform and comes in three versions:

• a base model with a 140 kW (190 hp) motor, rear-wheel drive and a 58 kWh LFP battery;
• a more powerful rear-drive version with 210 kW (286 hp) and a 77 kWh NMC battery;
• an all-wheel-drive version with 220 kW (299 hp) and a 77 kWh battery.

Preliminary WLTP estimates give a range of up to 450, 600 and 560 km respectively. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 8.5, 6.6 and 6.3 seconds, and top speed is 160 or 180 km/h.

AC charging power is up to 11 kW and DC charging is 105 or 165 kW. Charging from 10 to 80% takes roughly 26–29 minutes.

Equipment

The car offers a smooth-driving function with one-pedal control and driver assistance systems, including Travel Assist with lane-change support. Optional extras include seat ventilation and massage, a 480 W Harman Kardon audio system and an adapter to power external devices. Towing capacity is up to 1.8 tonnes for the base version and up to 2 tonnes for the more powerful ones.
