Ten Fuel-Efficient Cars: Two Models Promise Under Four Litres per 100 km
Latvijas Avīze has compiled ten cars with very low combined fuel consumption according to official WLTP data. Fuel prices in Latvia in September were about a third higher than the 2025 average.

Fuel prices in Latvia remain a sore point for drivers, so an economical car is increasingly a practical matter rather than just a pleasant bonus. Latvijas Avīze has put together a list of ten cars that, according to official WLTP data, have especially low combined fuel consumption. The publication notes that two of the listed models promise to use less than four litres per 100 kilometres.
The price backdrop
Data from the Central Statistical Bureau show that in September 2026 fuel prices were 32.6% higher than the 2025 average. Diesel was 37.2% more expensive, while petrol cost 25.7% more. In such conditions, the publication says, low consumption can be real help for a household budget.
What the list leaves out
Electric cars and plug-in hybrids are not included. The publication explains that comparing their consumption in litres per 100 kilometres is not straightforward, since much depends on how often the vehicle is charged. The focus is therefore on cars whose fuel consumption figures can be compared directly.
The compilation relies on official WLTP measurements, which allow models to be assessed under a common methodology. The specific models and their figures are available in the publication's full article.
