Vidzeme rescuers respond to four calls in one day
Over one day from September 22 to 23, rescuers in the Vidzeme region were called out four times – once for a fire and three times for rescue work. Nationwide, Latvia recorded 37 emergency calls.
The Vidzeme regional branch of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received four emergency calls between 6:30 a.m. on September 22 and 6:30 a.m. on September 23. One call involved extinguishing a fire, while the remaining three concerned rescue operations. The information was confirmed to the portal "Valmieras Ziņas" by Irita Slavinska, senior inspector of VUGD's Public Education and Information Division.
Two of the calls came from the Brenguļi parish in Valmiera municipality. At around 7:30 p.m., crews were dispatched to extinguish a small fire covering 0.1 square meters where a tree was burning. About an hour later, at approximately 8:30 p.m., rescuers were called to a traffic accident site, where the road surface needed to be cleared.
Nationwide situation
Across Latvia during the same 24-hour period, VUGD received a total of 37 calls. Of these, seven involved firefighting, 20 were rescue operations, and 10 turned out to be false alarms.
