Election update: ZZS falls below threshold as Apvienotais saraksts leads

With about 80% of votes counted in Latvia's 15th Saeima election, the party Apvienotais saraksts is leading convincingly, while the Greens and Farmers' Union (ZZS) has dropped below the 5% threshold. Six parties or alliances remain in contention for seats.

Vote counting is still underway in Latvia's 15th Saeima parliamentary election, and with roughly 80 percent of ballots processed, a clearer picture of the outcome is emerging. According to interim data published on the Central Election Commission's website, the party Apvienotais saraksts (United List) has secured a convincing lead over its rivals.

ZZS short of the threshold

One of the most notable findings from this partial count is that the Greens and Farmers' Union (ZZS) currently sits below the mandatory five percent threshold required for any party to win seats in the Saeima. If this trend holds through the final count, it would mean the long-standing political force fails to secure parliamentary representation this time.

Six contenders remain

Based on current figures, six parties or party alliances remain in contention for seats in the new Saeima, having cleared the required threshold in the interim results. The remaining registered political forces, including ZZS, have not yet reached the necessary level of support according to the data counted so far.

Count still ongoing

The election commission is processing ballots progressively, with published figures updated as counting continues. Since only around 80 percent of all cast votes have been processed to date, the final outcome could still shift from the currently visible trend, and changes remain possible for parties sitting close to the threshold. Final and definitive results will only be confirmed once all votes, including those cast by mail and from abroad, have been fully counted.
