The Zemgale Region Competence Development Centre (ZRKAC) is hosting a free online lecture for parents titled "A Successful School Start for a First-Grader." The session will take place on August 19 at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

The lecture aims to help parents prepare both the child and the whole family for the beginning of a new stage in education. The focus will be on how adults can support a child during this period of change — helping build a sense of security, independence, and a positive attitude toward school.

Topics to be covered

The session will address the child's psychological and emotional adjustment to a new environment and daily routine. It will also explain how to strike the right balance between parental involvement and a child's independence — for instance, how much parents should help with homework or packing the school bag, and which tasks can already be left to the child.

The lecture will also cover developing social skills and respectful relationships with teachers and classmates, balancing extracurricular activities with study workload, and forming sensible habits around the use of smart devices.

How to register

Participation is free of charge, but prior registration by filling out an application form is required. Registration closes on August 18.
