Latvia's State Security Service (VDD) has reported that during the pre-election period and up until midday on election day, it received a total of 24 reports concerning possible unlawful activity connected to the Saeima elections. Among the cases flagged were suspicions of vote buying as well as other potential forms of unlawful influence over voters' choices.

Most cases fall under the agency's authority

Of the 24 reports, 17 fall within VDD's own jurisdiction to assess. Some of these have already been reviewed, and none of the checked cases have confirmed any unlawful conduct. Checks on the remaining cases are still ongoing.

Preventive conversations held

Following its checks, VDD held preventive conversations with certain individuals, warning them of potential criminal liability should unlawful actions be carried out. Reports falling under the authority of other state institutions were forwarded to the relevant partner agencies for further assessment.

No systematic foreign interference found

VDD stated that it has not, to date, identified any systematic attempts by Russia or other states hostile to Latvia to unlawfully interfere in the conduct of the Saeima elections or to influence their outcome. Overall, the agency assessed that the election process has proceeded calmly so far, without incidents indicating a broader threat to the integrity of the vote.
