Several Samsung Galaxy Tab Models Are Nearing the End of Major Android Updates
Samsung will deliver the last major Android update for its Galaxy Tab S9 series this year. Newer models are promised seven years of updates.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab S9, S9+, S9 Ultra, S9 FE and S9 FE+ tablets will get their final major Android release in 2026. The update is One UI 9, Samsung's software layer, based on Android 17. These models are the last ones sold before the South Korean electronics maker moved to a longer support policy.
What older models were promised
The Galaxy Tab S9 line launched in 2023 with One UI 5.1 and Android 13. Samsung pledged four generations of major OS updates and five years of security patches. Security updates should continue until sometime in 2028.
The Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra, released in February 2022, have already received their last major upgrade, One UI 8 based on Android 16. Their security updates should last until February 2027.
Android 16 is also the final major update for the budget Galaxy Tab A9 and A9+, released in October 2023. They will still get another year of security updates.
Newer models
Samsung began its seven-year update policy with the Galaxy Tab S10 series, launched in 2024. The Galaxy Tab S11 and S12 carry the same commitment, as do the budget Galaxy Tab A11 and A11+ released in 2025.
The rugged Galaxy Tab Active line, sold mainly to business customers, follows different rules. The Galaxy Tab Active5, launched in 2024, has four years of Android OS updates and five years of security updates, with patches continuing until 2029.
Updates do not reach every device at the same time, and rollout varies by model and region. Owners can check for updates on their tablet under Settings > Software update > Download and install.
