Germany book knockout spot with comeback win over Ivory Coast
Germany came from behind to beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in the World Cup 2026 group stage, securing their place in the round of 32.
Germany secured their place in the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup with a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Ivory Coast on Saturday.
The Ivorians took the lead in the 30th minute when captain Franck Kessie turned in a close-range effort past Manuel Neuer. Germany thought they had equalized before the first hydration break, but Kai Havertz's goal was disallowed due to a foul on Ivory Coast goalkeeper Yahia Fofana.
In the second half, substitute Undav volleyed home to level the score. The same player then became the hero, slotting home the winner in the 94th minute of added time.
With six points from two matches, Germany top Group E and have advanced to the round of 32. Ivory Coast remain on three points. Later on Saturday, Ecuador and Curacao meet in Kansas City.
