Ukraine's General Staff confirms strikes on two Russian oil refineries and Black Sea rig

Ukraine's Armed Forces General Staff has officially confirmed that recent strikes targeted two Russian oil refineries as well as an oil extraction rig in the Black Sea.

One of the affected refineries belongs to Russian oil company Rosneft and has the capacity to process up to 8.5 million tons of oil annually. A fire broke out at the second refinery following the strike.

Details about the exact locations of the refineries and the rig, as well as the scale of the strikes and the resulting damage, remain limited. The General Staff issued only a brief confirmation of the attacks without providing further specifics.

Such strikes have increasingly become part of Ukraine's strategy to weaken Russia's oil and gas infrastructure, which provides a significant share of the country's military budget and economic revenue. Oil refineries and extraction platforms are considered strategic assets, and damage to them can affect both domestic fuel supply within Russia and the country's export earnings.
