US President Donald Trump stated Wednesday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is doing quite well in the war against the invading Russian forces. Addressing journalists in the Oval Office, Trump said, "He's doing quite well. At least he's holding on. A lot of people are dying on both sides, but I think he's doing quite well." Trump added that Zelensky is brave, has great equipment, and great fighters.
Analysts note that Ukraine is increasingly holding its own on the battlefield, but its cities continue to suffer devastating Russian strikes. Trump and Zelensky recently met at the G7 summit in France, where leaders agreed to increase pressure on Russia to end the war, which has lasted over four years. After the meeting, Zelensky expressed gratitude to Trump for his attention to Ukraine and willingness to help bring peace closer. Trump also voiced renewed interest in reviving sanctions on Russian oil.
