Quiz: could you survive 1926 New York? Only 1 in 20 can prove it

A Latvian news portal has published an entertainment quiz that lets readers imagine what it would feel like to suddenly find themselves in New York in 1926. According to the quiz creators, only one in twenty participants manages to answer all the questions correctly and "prove" they could survive a week in that era.

The quiz recreates what New York was like nearly a century ago — an age marked by jazz music, luxury automobiles such as Ford and Cadillac, and widespread hopes of quick riches on the stock market. At the same time, the city's nightlife was largely shaped by organized crime, which operated through hidden bars known as speakeasies.

Participants are asked to imagine having just arrived in an unfamiliar city and must choose what to do first — for example, look for cheap lodging, visit an employment office, or go to a diner to meet locals. Each choice affects how realistically and successfully one would fit into society at the time.

Quizzes of this kind are mainly meant for entertainment, but they also offer a small glimpse into history, recalling the atmosphere of 1920s America — a period before the Great Depression marked by optimism, but also by illegal alcohol trade and organized crime.
