Swiatek beats Rybakina to win first Toronto WTA 1000 title
Iga Swiatek defeated Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in the Toronto WTA 1000 final, securing her first title at this tournament.
Poland's Iga Swiatek, ranked No. 8, defeated Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina, the world No. 2, 6-2, 6-3 in the Toronto WTA 1000 final. Swiatek entered the match as a slight favorite, with bookmakers pricing her win at 1.74.
Swiatek outperformed Rybakina in most statistical categories. She had a higher first-serve percentage (80% to 57%), won more points behind her first serve (76% to 69%) and second serve (56% to 41%), and had a 56-41 edge in total points. She converted four of five break points, while Rybakina failed to convert either of her two chances. The ace and double-fault count was 0-1 for Swiatek and 1-4 for Rybakina.
This was Swiatek's third appearance in Toronto; she previously reached the round of 16 twice. Rybakina was competing in the tournament for the second time, having been eliminated in the second round in 2022. Swiatek, a former world No. 1, played her first final of the season. The victory also gave her an 8-7 lead in the head-to-head record against Rybakina.
The champion earned $1,085,220 and 1,000 ranking points, while the runner-up received $564,920 and 650 points. Swiatek, 25, has won 26 significant tournament titles, while Rybakina, 27, has collected 13.
