Seven professions set to thrive in the age of artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence is not so much eliminating jobs as shifting demand toward analytical and human-centric professions. The article outlines seven resilient career fields and the key questions to ask when choosing a path.

The job market is changing faster than universities can update their curricula, and the idea of a single career for life is losing ground. Although technology has created more jobs than it has destroyed over the past 140 years, the World Economic Forum projects that by 2030, 39% of workers will need to refresh their core skills. Continuous learning is becoming the most valuable capability.
Growing professions
Demand is rising fastest in fields where AI assists rather than replaces human judgment. Among the seven resilient fields: AI engineers, whose salary premium for AI skills has reached 62%; US base pay ranges from $134,000 to $193,000, with Germany averaging €92,000. Organizational psychologists help companies reduce burnout and build culture; they earn $92,800–$111,000 in the US and about €97,500 in Germany. Cybersecurity analysts are benefiting from stricter European NIS2 requirements; the US average is $105,000, while Germany pays about €90,000. Data scientists, who turn data into strategic decisions, earn $118,000–$130,000 in the US and €73,000–€83,000 in Germany.
Green energy engineers are especially sought after in Germany, where automakers are shifting to electric vehicles; salaries reach €70,000–€105,000. In robotics and drones, engineers earn over $130,000 in the US and €90,000–€95,000 in Germany; US drone pilots make $82,000–$113,000. Healthcare is projected to face a global shortage of at least 10 million workers by 2030, according to the McKinsey Health Institute, making care professions among the fastest-growing.
Declining roles
At the same time, routine-based jobs are shrinking. About 120,000 tech-sector positions have been cut since the start of the year, mainly in entry-level programming, testing and customer support. Stanford research shows that employment among 22-to-25-year-olds in AI-affected occupations fell 13% since late 2022, and nearly 20% for young software developers. High-risk roles include customer service, retail checkouts, translation, digital marketing and accounting.
What to consider
Before choosing a career, it is worth asking whether the work can be fully described by an instruction manual — if so, an algorithm will likely master it. Equally important is a willingness to reskill every few years, as a diploma is just the beginning. Finally, consider whether the profession allows international work or is tied to one place. History suggests that new jobs emerge as quickly as old ones disappear; the real question is how fast people and education systems can adapt.
