Convincing win in Kolkata

Brazil's national football team secured a convincing 4-0 victory over India in a friendly match played on Saturday, October 3, at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan stadium in Salt Lake, Kolkata.

The goals were scored by Estêvão (28th minute), Pedro (42nd minute), and twice by Samuel Lino, according to Brazilian broadcaster Rádio Itatiaia. VAVEL's live match coverage records Lino's goal in the 58th minute, when the score stood at 0-3, but does not mention his second goal — that detail comes only from Itatiaia, which reports it was scored in the closing minutes of stoppage time, setting the final score at 4-0.

Lino makes an immediate impact

The 26-year-old forward, who currently plays for Flamengo, came on in the second half, replacing Vinícius Júnior. Just 12 minutes after entering the pitch, he scored his first goal: the move began with Douglas Luiz winning the ball in the attacking third, feeding Pedro, who flicked it on with a backheel to Lino, who struck it first-time into the near corner.

According to Itatiaia, Lino's second goal came after he received the ball on the left flank, dribbled past his marker, entered the box and fired into the far corner, catching the goalkeeper off guard.

A career milestone and strong club form

The match against India was Lino's fourth appearance for the Brazilian national team. Across a combined 139 minutes on the pitch for the Seleção, he has now scored two goals, though he has yet to register an assist.

At club level, Lino is enjoying a strong run of form: this season he has scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in 46 matches for Flamengo.

Also notable: a goalkeeper from Coritiba

The match also carried significance for Brazil's goalkeeper Pedro Morisco, who plays for Coritiba. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti handed him a starting role — the first time in 50 years that a Coritiba goalkeeper has started for the national team; the previous instance was in 1976, with goalkeeper Jairo.

The friendly was part of a FIFA international window during which Brazil had previously played Australia twice.
