Riga Dairy Plant Invests €26,000 in Expanding Its Lakto Drinking Yogurt Range
Latvian dairy processor Rīgas piena kombināts has put €26,000 into widening the Lakto drinking yogurt range and improving its recipes. Three new products join the lineup this autumn, and all five products in the Lakto 450 g line are now lactose-free.

Rīgas piena kombināts, a Latvian dairy processing company, has invested €26,000 in expanding the range of its Lakto drinking yogurts and refining their recipes. This autumn three new products are being added to the lineup, and every recipe in the 450 g Lakto line has been reworked, so all five products in that line are now lactose-free.
Less added sugar
The company has further developed the Lakto ProBio drinking yogurt line, which it launched two years ago. The new products are aimed at consumers who want to cut the amount of added sugar in their daily diet.
Three development priorities
Estere Ermale, the company's brand manager, says the fermented dairy category is growing both globally and in Latvia, and the company sees room for growth in it. For that reason, Lakto development focuses on three areas: variety of flavours, reducing added sugar, and expanding the lactose-free offer.
She says the new Lakto ProBio items give a wider choice to people looking for yogurts without added sugar. Reworking the 450 g line's recipes, meanwhile, means its entire flavour range is now suitable for people who have difficulty digesting lactose.
Ermale calls this an important step towards the aim of making the whole Lakto range 100% lactose-free in the near future. The source does not say which flavours the new products come in or exactly when they will reach shops.
