Omniva, a company that handles postal and parcel deliveries, has turned to the European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, with complaints about possibly incompatible state aid granted to the national postal operators in Latvia and Lithuania. The company itself made the announcement.
The complaints concern the postal markets of the two Baltic countries. According to Omniva, the support given to the national operators may not be compatible with EU rules, and the Commission is therefore being asked to assess whether such aid is permissible.
The information currently available is limited. It is not known what kind of aid is at issue, how large it is, or when the Commission might open or conclude its review. These questions remain open until further details of the complaints or a decision from the Commission are made public.
