In their latest women's football league match, 2025 Latvian champions Riga secured a convincing victory. The team took the lead in the middle of the first half through a goal from Japanese player Shiori Kato.
The decisive advantage came after the break, when three more players found the net within a ten-minute span — Signija Šenberga, Natsumi Taketa, and Marina Teļukeviča. The 23-year-old Šenberga has made 23 appearances for the Latvian national team, while 20-year-old Teļukeviča has featured in 14 international matches.
Five Japanese players in the lineup
Riga fielded five players of Japanese origin in this match, two of whom scored. This reflects the club's international squad, which combines Latvian national team players with foreign legionnaires.
Title race continues
RFS currently leads the championship standings, having suffered two losses in 15 matches played. Second-placed Riga, meanwhile, boasts an unbeaten record of 12 wins in 12 matches. Notably, both of RFS's defeats this season came in matches against Riga, underscoring the intense rivalry between the two leading teams.
The next round of the women's league is scheduled for September 5, as the title race between the two frontrunners continues.
