NFL Week 4: Colts win in London as ticket prices draw criticism

In Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts beat the Washington Commanders 30-13 in London, though Tottenham Hotspur Stadium fell short of a full house. The league continues its international expansion, with nine regular-season games abroad this year.

Week's results

Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season produced several games, with the London matchup drawing extra attention. The Indianapolis Colts beat the Washington Commanders 30-13 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, moving to 2-2 on the season, according to NFL.com and BBC.

Other results from the week: Baltimore Ravens 24, Tennessee Titans 18; New England Patriots 29, Buffalo Bills 26; Chicago Bears 23, New York Jets 12; Jacksonville Jaguars 22, Cincinnati Bengals 17; Dallas Cowboys 34, Houston Texans 30; New York Giants 36, Arizona Cardinals 24; Los Angeles Rams 24, Philadelphia Eagles 20; Green Bay Packers 17, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14; Minnesota Vikings 15, Miami Dolphins 10; Kansas City Chiefs 30, Las Vegas Raiders 27; Seattle Seahawks 30, Los Angeles Chargers 23; San Francisco 49ers 24, Denver Broncos 14; and in the Sunday night game, Carolina Panthers 32, Detroit Lions 26.

Commanders hit hard by injuries

Washington's roster in London was depleted by injuries. Quarterback Jayden Daniels and running back Rachaad White were already out, and star receiver Terry McLaurin was a surprise inactive before kickoff with a hamstring injury. During the game, backup quarterback Marcus Mariota had to be replaced after aggravating a knee injury, with seventh-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis taking over. Kaliakmanis completed 13 of 31 passes for 91 yards, but stood out with two long completions — a 47-yard touchdown pass to Treylon Burks and a 48-yard pass to Dyami Brown.

Colts running back Jonathan Taylor scored two touchdowns and rushed for 95 yards, NFL.com reports, and has now accumulated 408 rushing yards across international games — the most by any player in NFL history in such games. Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner, acquired from the Jets last year for two first-round picks, had one of the worst games of his career, allowing four receptions for 117 yards.

Ticket price backlash

While previous NFL games in London were typically sellouts, Sunday's Commanders-Colts game drew only 60,907 fans, and large sections remain unsold for next week's game at Wembley on October 18, according to BBC. Ticket prices were cut twice after going on sale in the summer. Fans complain that prices have risen faster than inflation since 2019 and criticize the decision to scrap London season-ticket packages after the 2024 season. By contrast, next week's game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars at the same venue sold out within hours.

International growth

The NFL is playing a record nine regular-season games abroad this year, including first-ever games in Australia and Brazil, where the Baltimore Ravens dramatically beat the Dallas Cowboys last week. A first-ever NFL game in France, in Paris, is also scheduled for late October, according to Sky Sports. Commissioner Roger Goodell has suggested the league could play 10 international games next season and potentially as many as 16 a year in the future, if the league and the players' association agree to an 18-game regular season. Discussions about a possible European division or franchise are also ongoing, though no concrete decision has been made.
