Rēzija Kalniņa closes the book on “OratoriO” cultural space
The “OratoriO” cultural venue, founded six years ago by actress Rēzija Kalniņa and conductor Ainārs Rubiķis, has ceased operating at its Sporta Street location, replaced by a sign reading “Pauze” (Pause). Kalniņa says her ideas live on and may find a new home.

The cultural and drama venue “OratoriO,” created six years ago on Sporta Street by actress and director Rēzija Kalniņa together with conductor Ainārs Rubiķis, has come to an end. According to the magazine “Privātā Dzīve,” the space now bears a simple new sign reading “Pauze” (Pause).
Over the years, “OratoriO” became a venue for various cultural events and a platform for projects envisioned by both its founders. About a year ago it emerged that Kalniņa and Rubiķis were going through a relationship crisis that ended in divorce. Now the shared cultural project the two built together has also reached its conclusion at that address.
Rubiķis no longer involved
The conductor says he currently has no involvement in whatever is happening at the Sporta Street premises. He explains that he left everything to Kalniņa, adding that he recently received a call from the new owner of “Pauze” asking him to remove a piano from the space — an event he says signals the end of “OratoriO.”
Kalniņa: ideas have not been cancelled
Kalniņa has also confirmed that the “OratoriO” chapter at this address is over, but stressed that the new name “Pauze” is not a rebranding of her project — rather, a different group of people's story is now beginning there. The actress says that, for the first time in her life, she is allowing herself not to know what comes next.
She adds that her earlier ideas have not been abandoned: some may continue elsewhere, others will have to wait, and some might take on an entirely different form. At the same time, she emphasizes she does not intend to stop working — she will continue directing, acting, teaching, and developing new projects.
