Paris St-Germain have agreed a deal in principle with Barcelona to sign Spain international forward Ferran Torres, in a transfer worth around 50 million euros (£42.7m).

Torres, 26, was excused from training this week as he worked to finalise the move. His profile has grown significantly following a strong club season and his role in Spain's World Cup triumph this summer, where he scored the extra-time winner against Argentina to seal the title.

Across all competitions this season, Torres scored 21 goals in 49 appearances for Barcelona, adding three assists, and helped the club win the La Liga title.

PSG strengthens attacking options

PSG, managed by former Barcelona player and coach Luis Enrique, have won the Champions League in each of the past two seasons. The club added another trophy on Wednesday, beating Aston Villa 2-1 to lift the Uefa Super Cup.

Should the Torres deal be completed, he would become the second high-profile forward signed by PSG this summer, following the arrival of Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco. PSG could meanwhile lose forward Bradley Barcola this summer, with Liverpool interested in signing him.

Torres has played for Barcelona since 2022, having previously spent two years at Manchester City. For the Spanish national team, he has scored 25 goals in 65 appearances.
