Dozens of activists gathered on Tuesday outside OpenAI's developer conference at San Francisco's Fort Mason Center, marching, chanting and carrying signs and banners.
The protesters called on OpenAI to terminate its contracts with the US military and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). They also demanded greater government regulation of artificial intelligence.
Broader concerns over jobs and costs
Activists raised additional concerns about AI's wider impact, including effects on employment, working conditions, the climate and household expenses.
New products announced inside
While the demonstration took place outside, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman used the conference to unveil new AI agents along with a series of other product updates.
