Monday morning in Latvia coldest since May, sunny day ahead
On the morning of 19 October, temperatures across most of Latvia fell to between -2 and +2 degrees, the lowest since May. A dry, sunny day is forecast, with some risk of icy roads.

On Monday morning, 19 October 2026, air temperatures across most of Latvia ranged from -2 to +2 degrees Celsius. Meteorological data indicate this was the coolest morning in the country since May. Forecasters expect mostly clear skies and sunshine during the day, with no precipitation.
What is driving the weather
The weather is shaped by a strong anticyclone, an area of high atmospheric pressure. Sea-level pressure has reached 1034–1039 hectopascals, one of the highest readings in the past year.
Morning conditions
In southern Latgale the temperature reached +4 degrees, while the Kurzeme coast of the Gulf of Riga stayed as warm as +8 degrees. Road surface temperatures have dropped below zero in places, so there is a risk of icing, mainly near bodies of water. Skies were mostly clear, though cloudy across much of Latgale and Selija, without precipitation. Air quality was assessed as very good.
In Riga the morning was clear, with a northeasterly wind at three metres per second and temperatures of 0 to +2 degrees.
Forecast for the day
With a light to moderate east and northeast wind, temperatures nationwide will rise to between +7 and +12 degrees. Many southern areas will be cloudy but dry. Riga is expected to see a dry, sunny day, with the air warming to about +10 degrees.
Sunday and Europe
On Sunday, the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre's observation network recorded maximum temperatures from +8.1 degrees in Dagda to +11.3 degrees in Liepaja and Pavilosta. In Europe, the highest temperature on 18 October was +28 to +29 degrees in Portugal, Spain and Italy, while Scandinavia saw -7 degrees overnight into Monday.
