Border-area farmers draw up their own safety plans
Farmers living a few kilometres from Latvia's border with Russia say they must look after their own safety and are setting up shelters. They hear drones at night, but so far no damage has been caused.

Farmers working land in the border area, just a couple of kilometres from the frontier with Russia, are preparing for security risks on their own. They stress that they have to take care of their own safety.
Drones at night
The farmers say they have heard drones during the night. So far, however, the aircraft have not caused any harm.
Shelters in grain dryers and cellars
To protect themselves, residents of the border zone are fitting out shelters in grain dryers and cellars, relying on their own resources.
Investors stay away
The farmers admit that people get used to everything. Even so, the proximity of an aggressor state leaves little hope of large investments, because developers are afraid to put money into such a place.
