Upset in the European Championships 100m final as injured Jacobs falls off the podium

Britain's Romell Glave won the men's 100m sprint final at the European Athletics Championships with a time of 10.09 seconds. His compatriot Jeremiah Azu took second place, finishing 0.07 seconds behind the winner. Germany's Owen Ansah claimed bronze, crossing the line 0.1 seconds slower than Glave.

Favourite falls short

The race's top favourite, Italy's Marcell Jacobs, who had won the event at the previous two European Championships in a row, endured a difficult run. He struggled to build speed right after the start and was forced to slow down further by the midpoint of the race. After finishing, Jacobs was visibly limping, suggesting an injury. He ultimately placed seventh, finishing more than two seconds behind the winner.

Another sprinter drops out of contention

Jacobs was not the only athlete to have a poor race. Belgium's Simon Verherstraeten also pulled out of full competition early in the run, eventually finishing last in eighth place with a notably slower time than the rest of the field.

The remaining top-eight finishers were Elvis Afrifa of the Netherlands in fourth, Dominik Kopeć of Poland in fifth, and Chituru Ali of Italy in sixth.
