Marijuana grow-op uncovered in Ozolnieki parish, man detained

Police in Ozolnieki parish, Jelgava region, discovered a marijuana grow operation in a private home, seizing plants, dried substance, and equipment. A man has been arrested and remanded in custody.

On May 12, State Police officers conducted a search of a private home in Ozolnieki parish, Jelgava region. One of the rooms contained a marijuana grow setup. Law enforcement seized cultivation equipment including a fan, LED lights, and a tent.

Additionally, 10 cannabis plants, dried plant material, and seeds were found. Forensic analysis confirmed that the 10 fresh plants, weighing a total of 3.860 kilograms, contain THC and are classified as cannabis. Approximately one kilogram of substance in three bags was identified as dried marijuana. Results for other seized materials are pending.

A criminal proceeding was initiated for illegal sowing and cultivation of narcotic plants, as well as illegal possession of narcotics in large quantities for the purpose of distribution.

On May 14, a man was detained on suspicion of illegal drug trafficking. At police request, a court ordered his remand in custody. The suspect has no prior criminal record.

Under the Criminal Law, such offenses carry a penalty of up to eight years' imprisonment. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
