OpenAI brings in new revenue chief amid ongoing leadership shake-up

OpenAI has named Dali Rajic, formerly president and chief operating officer of cybersecurity firm Wiz, as its new chief revenue officer, replacing Denise Dresser, who held the post for only nine months. Wiz was acquired by Google earlier this year for $32 billion, the largest acquisition in the tech giant's history.

The appointment is part of a wider leadership overhaul at OpenAI over the past month, which has also seen the departures of chief operating officer Brad Lightcap and Fidji Simo, who led AGI deployment and was widely seen as the company's number two executive. Following Simo's exit, co-founder and president Greg Brockman has taken on a larger management role and announced Rajic's hiring in a company blog post.

Brockman credited Dresser with steering the revenue organization through a formative growth phase, while expressing hope that Rajic would help turn OpenAI's experience into more repeatable business execution.

Growth alongside unmet targets

OpenAI says its products now reach more than one billion weekly active users and two million businesses. Even so, executives have acknowledged, both privately and publicly, that the company has fallen short of some of its revenue goals.

The company has confidentially filed paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ahead of a possible initial public offering, though no timeline has been set. This week OpenAI also completed a $7 billion tender offer to buy shares from employees, letting staff cash out some equity — a move that may hint at a delayed IPO.

CEO Sam Altman has spoken this year about sharpening the company's focus on enterprise deployment, while scaling back technology projects viewed as distractions from that priority.
