Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to sign 22-year-old centre-back Ousmane Diomande. Sporting will receive €40 million for the player, who has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the English club.

Diomande represented Ivory Coast at this year's World Cup and drew interest from several clubs over the summer. He has been with Sporting since January 2023, when he moved to Portugal from Danish club Midtjylland. During his time in Lisbon he made 132 appearances for the club and has earned 16 caps for the national team.

Forest's ambitions

Nottingham Forest finished last season in 16th place in the Premier League, just five points clear of the relegation zone. The season before, the club surprised many by finishing seventh, which earned them a place in European competition. The new Premier League season kicks off on 21 August, and the signing of Diomande signals Forest's intent to strengthen their defence ahead of the new campaign.
