Netflix releases trailer for FTX scandal series ‘The Altruists’
Netflix's series ‘The Altruists’, about Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison and the collapse of FTX, premieres on November 19. Anthony Boyle and Julia Garner star.
Netflix has released a trailer for its new series “The Altruists”, which dramatizes the scandal behind the cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The show is set to debut on November 19.
The story follows Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, whose actions led to FTX's collapse and ultimately to prison time for both. Anthony Boyle plays Bankman-Fried, while Julia Garner portrays Ellison.
Words from the creators
Co-showrunner Graham Moore told Netflix in an interview this summer that he had been fascinated by the real stories of both Bankman-Fried and Ellison from the outset. In his view, these are characters nobody could invent, and he does not consider himself a good enough writer to come up with figures as compelling.
Context
TechCrunch notes that the series is not the only tech-scandal project arriving this autumn: a Nathan Fielder documentary about Elizabeth Holmes is also on the way. The outlet says it hopes Netflix will do justice to the strangeness of the story, given that the ethical disconnects behind effective altruism were an unlikely subject to attract Hollywood's attention.
The release date lands shortly before Thanksgiving in the United States.
