Netflix has teamed up with Rockstar Games to present an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI. On August 27 at 3pm ET, the streaming service will exclusively debut a feature titled "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look." The exclusivity is brief, however, lasting only six hours. At 9pm ET, the same feature will be published on Rockstar's official YouTube channel, giving non-subscribers and those who cannot watch Netflix during working hours a chance to see it.

It is easy to argue that the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI this November will be the biggest media event of the year. Netflix, eager to get in on the action, is using this limited-time exclusive to attract viewers. The move is especially interesting given that YouTube has become the default destination for companies releasing teasers, trailers, and promotional content. If Netflix paid for this six-hour head start, it would demonstrate the intensifying competition among streaming platforms, which are increasingly looking to beat broadcasters and rival services.

This arrangement also marks another example of how major pop culture events are being used by streaming services to boost engagement. For many fans, the six-hour wait may feel long, but the extended look will eventually be available to everyone for free on YouTube.
